I love the detail and imposing presence of this bear! All of my great-grandparents came from Finland to northern Michigan to work in the mines around the 1890's. Some are from Oulu and Kemijarvi (Rytilahti and Maki's)

Thank You for the comment, Steffani! Lots of people went to the States from Finland that time. Finland was a part of Russia back then, and the life was hard here. I suppose the other name is Mäki, meaning Hill - quite common surname here in Finland. Rytilahti means a bay with reeds.
